5-7-03 27:44!!! I GOT TO PLAY!!! First round of the district tournament, the 27:44 remaining in the game had been rained out the night before (it reminded me of noah and the arc, no joke the water in the corner of the field was up to my shins). So I got to play [putting our other keeper in the field to spark a goal] which didn't happen, and we lost 1-0, but I did get the opportunity to make some spectatular saves. So that was totally awesome. Got real muddy and my brace got cloged with grass and mud from the field. But all in all, 27:44, enough said, cryps can play!
4-25-03 Hey I got to play tonight. It was senior night, so I had an awesome time. Standing there in the falling sunlight as the National Anthem was being played, and knowing that today I would get to play, and that God found it right in his vast wisdom to allow me to play. Wow, it brought tears to my eyes.
?-??-03 I got discharged from therapy at some point in here, if you know when I got discharged from therapy, I'll give you a cookie : ) [even though i'm discharged, I am still not cleared to play- this aspect really pisses me off, not just a little bit, but a whole big bunch of pissed offness.]
3-13-03 went to see doctor. UUGGHH !@#$@#^@@!# arg dang... doc said i cant play for 2 months, which in the grand scheme of things is not a bad thing, although it does piss me off. especially since i am doing so well, and also in 2 months, the season will be over. dang! o well, guess God is still using me in a different way.
3-9-03 therapy: I GOT CLEARED to do some stuff... 3/4 speed side to side, full speed backwards, waling with a forceful pushoff, and i can plant and turn at 1/2 speed. I'm so happy!!!
2-27-03 therapy: 7:00 am. rode the bike, did some stuff with the sport cord where i balanced on a box on one leg that was bent. Used the leg press and hip machines. did the slide bord 2 sets of 4 min. jumps touching the sealing. jumps foreward on a mat where i land softly as posslble. step ups on a box (one foot is placed on the box, the other on the ground, and you switch them in rapid succession.) and i think that was all for today. I'll try to get some pics up soon of all the new stuff.
2-25-03 gym 6:30 am uugghh this is way way too early.
2-23-03 gym
2-22-03 therapy, was told to get to they gym to strengthen my knee. The term "loose" does not imply that i have torn my acl again, but it just means that it isnt tight like a drum. If i had torn my acl agian, my knee would give way, i would be in a lot of pain, and my knee would swell up. Also got cleared to ride a bike and i think that is about it.
2-17-03 therapy, was told to that my knee was "loose." i have no clue what that means, although probably is not good. O, started doing jumps on two legs jumping up and touching the sealing.
1-19-03 gym
1-17-03 gym
1-15-03 hey, something new, i'm going to the gym now and lifting weights. i begin with 10-20 min on an eliptical machine, then i do 3x15 leg press @ 160#; claf raises 3x15 @ 160#; hamstring curles 3x15 @ 80#; leg extentions (only from 90-45 degrees) 3x15 @ 70#; hip abduction (outer thigh) 3x15, and hold for 5 sec, @ 60#; hip adduction(inner thigh) 3x15 (hold for 5 sec.) @ 100#; leg press double hop 3x15 @ 64#. Then i end with a bike ride for 10-20 min.
1-10-03 therapy: bike 8 min; stretch; sport cord, steping backwards over a box, sideways, and lunging on the box, karaoke; slide board; leg press 220lbs; calf raisers 120lbs; hip abductions (side leg lifts on a machine) 80-120lbs; cold therapy, electro therapy; got kicked out, john said the knee was looking great.
1-8-03 Went to see doctor Holt. He said my knee was looking fine, to be careful, to follow the acl protocol, and that it would be 6 months till it was fully healed.
1-6-03 7:00am. thats all i need to say really. uugghh. i didnt have too much time at therapy because school starts at 8:30. I think i got some cold therapy, maybe some electro therapy, but i really cant remember everything. There wasn't much.
12-18-02 went to pt did the usual, and some different walking things where i'm attached to a big rubberband which provides the resistance, and i'm walking up and down the hallway forewards, backwards, side to side, over cones. knee is feeling great rode the bike, lots of other stuff.
12-9-02 went to pt did the usual, and am doing lots of different exercise where using my body weight, and some resistance. i think i have full range of motion now so thats good. I'd list all the stuff i'm doing now, but i cant even remember all of it.
12-5-02 went to pt did elector therapy, cold therapy, leg lifts, wall squats, poked at my knee some, walked some, and generally had a good time. rode the bike for 10 min, and measured my knee bendage at 136o.
12-2-02 went to pt GOT TO WALK TODAY YIPPE TBTG, did some electro therayp, cold therapy, wall squats with electro therapy, different leg lifts, then got to walk over cones, around cones, and do sidesteps over cones.
11-28-02 went to pt, dont quite remember what i did, but it was the standard stuff
11-25-02 went to pt, did elector therapy, cold therapy, and the boot. rocked on the bike again, able to go all the way around forewards and backwards. max angle of knee: 122o. I also did the russian exercise wich are leg lifts with electrodes attached to your leg. I also did wall squats leaning up against a ball which was against the wall, where i also had electordes attached to my knee. John mobilized my knee cap again, this hurts so so so so bad, i had to laugh to keep from hollering in pain. Also did some walking with one crutch training i guess, and am working on that now, walking with one crutch.
11-23-02 went to pt, did elector therapy, cold therapy, and the boot. rocked on the bike again, was able to go all the way around when i pedeled backwards, and when i went forewards, but it hurt really bad in the front of my knee, where the incision is, and in my thy near my knee, i think just because of the swelling and extra fluid in my leg/knee my leg is cramping like crazy. they measured the algle to which my knee can bend which was 118o. Then I did leg raises laying on my back, side, and stomach, as well as some bridges.
11-20-02 went to pt, did elector therapy, cold therapy, and the boot. rocked on the bike again, but was able to go all the way around when i pedeled backwards. they measured my knee bendability or something like that at 107o then gave me some new exercises, a window cleaning one, and one where i put the styrafoam roll under my knees and pick my foot up, and straghten my leg out. had my bandages changed and had some super cold ice packs put on my knee, they were way cold, i'm used to this "cold" therapy stuff which is at 45oF, then they hit me with those, that hurt quite a bit, but it got better after a while. o and i'm off my pain killers, i'm only taking ibprofin and things of that nature at the moment.
11-18-02 went to pt, had a good time, did electro therapy, cold therapy, and the boot. rocked back and fourth on the bike for a bit man does that hurt ouch. did some more of my exercises, and john messed with my knee some which also hurt a lot.
11-18-02 hey I went to school today, man it was a long day uugghh. but thanks be to God that I was able to go.
11-17-02 went to chruch, did my exercises
11-16-02 then after therapy I went to a TEC team meeting, in which I was incohearent, but it was all good. we got a lot done and it's looking good for the weekend in january.
11-16-02 go to physical therapy, they do electro therapy, and change my bandages, i think we did some cold therapy, no boot though. O, I was given some new exercises, ancle flexors i guess you just bend your foot a bunch, then one where you hang your feet off the table, and support it with your strong leg and slowly bend it to 90ish degrees, then bring it back up. the third exercise is as follows, sit on the floor, and place a rolled up ace bandage under your knee, and one between your knees. Then you just squeeze on both of them, in and down and hold for 5 sec.
11-15-02 rested at home.
11-14-02 Later that day, I get up to go to the restroom, and bump the bandages on my knee, and my knee starts to bleed through the bandages. so we go back to the doc to get it patched back up, no biggie.
11-14-02 surgery last 2 hrs, I get home about 12:00 noon. I'm really groggy but my knee doesnt hurt too badly
11-14-02 SURGERY at 8:00 am, please pray for me. thanks. when I am awake again, I'll tell yall how things are feeling.
11-13-02 Went to hospital to get blood drawn, for blood tests. I am angry at myself because I forgot to take the camera, sorry about that.
11-11-02 PT. did the elector therapy, and cold therapy, as well as the big blue air pressure boot, pictures here. Rode the bike for 10:00 min. then I did some bridges with my feet on a cylendar of styrafoam. Then I did some more of my exercises. They also did an ultrasound to my knee, and when I was doing my exercise they gave me some weights, I think about 4 lbs. which was attached just above my knee.
11-6-02 Hey i've got a surgery date! Yippe!! I'm going in on Thursday, Nov. 14. Pray for me please.
11-6-02 PT. did the elector therapy, and cold therapy, as well as the big blue air pressure boot, pictures here. Rode the bike for 10:00 min. then I did some bridges with my feet on a cylendar of styrafoam. Then I did some more of my exercises. They also did an ultrasound to my knee, I think on the "upper petela pouch".
11-4-02 My doctor was supposed to give me a surgery date today. But we missed his call, and when we finally got home, they had gone home. So we will try to get one tomorrow.
11-4-02 PT. did the elector therapy, and cold therapy, as well as the big blue air pressure boot, pictures here. Rode the bike for 10:00 min. then I did some bridges with my feet on a cylendar of styrafoam. Then I did some more of my exercises. John also did an ultrasound to my knee, to increase the movement of fluid betweent the cells. Then he played with my knee, and molded and manipulated it to look like my right one, he is a very very good pt guy.
11-1-02 PT. did the elector therapy, and cold therapy, as well as the big blue air pressure boot, pictures here. Rode the bike for 10:00 min. then I did some bridges with my feet on a cylendar of styrafoam. Then I did some more of my exercises and called it a day.
11-1-02 went to see the doctor today. He says i'm still in the inflamatory state, and cant have surgery for at least another week. and he continues to tell me i'll be out for the season :( He is going to call on monday to give me a surgery date.
10-30-02 go back to physical therapy again. did the elector therapy, and cold therapy, as well as the big blue air pressure boot, pictures here. Rode the bike for 7:00 min. then I did some bridges, the exercise where I lay on my back and pull my knees in and raise my body up, only this time I did them with my feet on top of a Styrofoam cylinder- that was hard. Then I did some more of my exercises and called it a day.
10-28-02 go back to physical therapy again. did the elector therapy, and cold therapy, as well as the big blue air pressure boot, pictures here. I rode the bike for about 10:00 minutes, and I was doing well. Except when I pushed it too hard, my quad muscle had some sharp pains running through it deep inside. They went away when I stopped pushing as hard. The therapists think it’s just because of some fluid still being in there, and because I haven’t used my leg muscles much.
10-25-02 go back to physical therapy third time. did the elector therapy, and ice thing, as well as the big blue air pressure sleeve, pictures here. Did the exercise where I laid on my side, and then did one where I laid on my back, and I think that was all the exercises I did today. I am no longer allowed to put any weight on my left knee because they got my mri results, visit the symptoms page for more info on my mri results.
10-23-02 go back to physical therapy second time. did the elector therapy, and ice thing, as well as the big blue air pressure sleeve, pictures here. Then did some other exercises where I laid on my side, and lifted up my left leg and held it in the air. Well there are some other exercises, which I will have up soon, much too long for the timeline page. But then I rode the bike some, and got a knee brace, which is one of the ones with a hole for your kneecap, so that is good.
10-21-02 go to physical therapy. It is fun. Today we did some elector therapy, and some ice type thing as well as a big blue air pressure sleeve for my leg. All three focused on getting the fluid out of my leg. After those things, I rode the bike there for 7 min, and my knee felt just great.
10-16-02 working on website, just hanging out, using crutches to move anywhere almost, and am icing my leg for 20 min. time periods, and then reapply the ice when my leg warms to room temperature. I am also now taking ibuprofen, and trying to drink lots of water, and am stretching a lot (but my knee can't go back all the way, so I stop when it hurts. more info on how my leg feels where in the Symptoms section).
10-14-02 So I'm feeling fine, and go for a walk down the bike trail to cheer on my teammates who are doing some conditioning. My mom finds me when I get back to the parking lot at school. She tells me and my coach, as he had been running with the team, that doctor Holt had called and said I had completely torn the ACL and had some cartilage damage. The Lord gives, and he takes, blessed be the Lord.
10-14-02 Go back to the trainer at school to say hey, and get some tips, basically a check up. The trainer reexamines my knee, based on my responses, the only thing the trainer was concerned with was my hamstring, and maybe possibly some cartilage damage. Not the ACL.
10-11-02 Go to medical place for the MRI. This doesn't take long, and we walk (I hobble) out of the building and I go back to school.
10-9-02 Go to see knee doctor, Dr. Holt. He does some x-rays and some other tests. Based on my responses he concludes that I have a strained or pulled MCL (is on the inside side of the knee) and that I have pulled my hamstring. Decides to do an MRI just to make sure that the ACL is intact and there is no cartilage damage.
10-7-02 Talk to trainer at school who does some other tests, and says about the same thing the sports medicine person said. Tells me to get off the crutches and work on waling heal to toe, and tells me to work on stretching out knee and leg (don't think acl is messed up yet).
10-6-02 Playing Soccer, hurt knee badly, sports medicine person at field does tests, checks knee out, says everything seems to be in place, and everything seems tight. pack leg with ice, head home.
I tore my acl on Sunday, October 6, 2002. I found out that it was torn on Monday, October 14. Prior to Monday, I had though that there was just a strained muscle somewhere in there. I initially felt the bones in my leg kinda twist apart, and it was the worst pain i have ever felt in my life. The sports medicine guy at the field said all the ligaments were tight, and that it didnt seem like it was going to be an acl. The trainer at school said about the same thing three days later. My doctor on Wednesday said about the same, but just had the mri to make sure it wasnt an acl or cartalage dammage. it may have something to doo with the fact that my legs are like tree trunks, they preformed all the usal tests, but maybe they just couldn't feel the right stuff maybe, i don't know. I started to walk on my leg on tuesday without crutches and was gettig good at it. My legs were extremely stiff, and my calf muscle cramped up continuoulsly. I think in the initial injury i pulled my hamstring, so that hurt lots all the time. I also couldn't bend my leg back as easily or as far as my right one. I could and can now(mon the 14) bend it about 130 or 140 degrees at most. where as my right leg can go to 180 degrees. I cant flex, bend my left leg all the way flat, to be able to lift my heel off the ground. Where as in my right leg i can. My left leg is swollen majorly, my knee was about 1.5 times as big as my right knee. Under my knee cap, on my left leg, the leg just transitions to the shinn, without any defined knee cap or muscle or whatever. The right knee is more defined than the left. I think there is some fluid, or something in the base of the left knee area, maybe the acl is there right now because it certinly isn't connected inside of my knee. Also my leg below my knee on my left leg also swelled up like my knee to about 1.5ish times that of my right. After i ice, my leg i very stiff, and just a heads up, stretch your calf gently, it will be tight. i think that is it for the moment. hopefully some x-rays here of my leg with some commentary hopefully the mri scans here with some commentary some pics of leg from when i have pics, 14th, pre surgery, post surgery, 1mo. post, 2 mo. post, daily log of how i'm feeling, any pain, soreness, anything weird... conclusion
